Xie Yi [Anhui Daily]
Xie Yi, a female chemistry and material sciences professor at a major university in east China, won the 2017 Anhui Provincial Science and Technology Achievement Award on February 23.
Xie works at the University of Science and Technology of China, where she specializes in the functional and theoretical study of the structure of "smart" nano-materials.
She has developed new principles and methods for the orderly assembly of nano-units and building of macro-scale nano-structures.
In particular, a team led by Xie, which developed a new cobalt-based electro-catalyst for the conversion of CO2 to liquid fuel, in 2016 won the honor of Top 10 Progress of Science in China, appraised by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The same project was evaluated by international peers as a breakthrough study in basic research, according to experts.
Xie was previously named Changjiang Chair Professor by the Ministry of Education, and has been awarded by the National Distinguished Youth Fund. She also serves as an international consultant for Dalton Transactions and Chemistry Central Journal.
"I'm deeply honored to get the award in Anhui," she told reporters.
Xie said the award will be a new starting point, and she will keep in mind her mission, striving for more innovations and transforming such innovations into productivity.
The current generation of scientific workers have good opportunities to make innovations, and she will strive to make greater strides in scientific fields along with her colleagues, Xie concluded.
